Karen Berns serves as Associate Pastor at San Marino Community Church [PCUSA] where she leads Adult Spiritual Formation, resources “Glocal” Outreach, and offers Pastoral Care. She has been committed to working for justice for women and meeting the needs of vulnerable children in East Africa for decades. She describes her life as ‘a joyful balancing act of 39 years of marriage with PCUSA Pastor Don Berns, ministry, mothering 2, and grandmothering 3, under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.’

Paul Edwards is Executive Director for Wycliffe’s Last Languages Campaign, a 10-year drive to raise the people, prayer and financial resources to start the remaining Bible translations for language communities that still have not heard God’s Word. A graduate of Stanford and Fuller Theological Seminary, his passion is strengthening the capacity to organizations and the skills of leaders to raise funds equal to their vision. Paul and his wife Jeannie, live in Denver, Colorado.

Janice has a passion for children at risk and devotes many hours weekly working with the executive team for Discover the World. She has helped lead several trips of donors and volunteers to DTW project sites. A successful residential real estate agent for over 25 years Janice works for Coldwell Banker in the La Canada Flintridge/Pasadena area of California. She has three great children and a loving husband.

The Rev. Dr. Douglas E. Millham

Dr. Doug Millham is co-founder of Discover the World, along with his wife (of 40 years) Jackie. His life is dedicated to loving his family and serving God. Doug is an ordained Presbyterian minister, having earned degrees from UC Berkeley, UCLA, and a doctorate in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary. His remaining life passion is to connect resources with needs, doing whatever he can to help inspire hope for vulnerable children around the world.

Dr. Jacquelyn D. Millham, Ph.D.

Jacquelyn Millham is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Pasadena, California. For twenty-six years, she has partnered with her husband, Doug, to create, develop and provide vision for Discover the World. She delights in helping children at risk, particularly those in Africa who have lost the support and care they need.


Brooke Moore

Brooke Bentley Moore began volunteering for Discover the World several years ago after learning of the life-changing work it was doing with at-risk children in Kenya. A visit to Kenya and the projects that Discover the World supports there provided an opportunity for her to see, first-hand, the work that God is doing through the organization to rescue, shelter, feed and educate young people who would otherwise be entirely without resources. For the past 40 years, Brooke has served on countless non-profit boards and has volunteered for her church and other Christian organizations. She is an interior designer by profession and co-owner of G. D. Moore & Co., Inc. with her loving and supportive husband, Gary.

Christie Skinner

Christie Skinner is an enthusiastic advocate for vulnerable children and uses her creative and marketing skills to help get their needs met. Christie started City Spaces, Inc. as a commercial space planning and design firm in Pasadena, and was its President and CEO, over a 23 year period of time. Ms. Skinner sold City Spaces, Inc. in 2009, prior to relocating to Austin, TX where her husband is currently the Dean of the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas. One of her passions is economic development and empowerment for women in Kenya.
