Ruth W. is a sister to James K., who is also a part of the home. The two children were born out of wedlock, but their mother married another man who accepted the two children as his own. They lived for a long time under the care of this man. During this time, their mother gave birth to two other children. Her husband had other older children from his first deceased wife, one of which physically confronted Ruth’s mother several times until she decided to leave the home. She went back to her parent’s house with Ruth and James, but later on disappeared and left the children under their elderly grandmother who was unable to meet their needs. They suffered from malnourishment until Sheltered Children’s Home rescued both children. Ruth is very bright and would like to become an airline hostess when she grows up.
